CEDAR CITY — Police arrested a Cedar City man who allegedly chased his sister through their home and attempted to shoot her.
Officers responded to a 911 call around noon on Tuesday from a woman who said a family member was shooting at her in her home in the 300 South block of 400 East. She told police that her brother, Brett Steven Hunter, 36, became angry with her and retrieved a handgun, said Cedar City Police Sgt. Jimmy Roden.
The woman attempted to barricade herself in a bedroom, but Hunter shot through the door multiple times and got into the room, Roden said.
The woman told police she then retreated to an attached bathroom, where three female children also in the home had already taken refuge. However, Hunter managed to get into the bathroom and aimed the gun at her, she told police.
The woman grabbed the gun just as Hunter pulled the trigger, Roden said. The weapon jammed and she eventually talked Hunter into letting go of the firearm.
According to police, Hunter complied with officers who arrived on scene and was taken into custody without incident.
The woman sustained a minor arm injury from being so close to the muzzle of the gun when it went off and the three children were unharmed, the sergeant said.
Hunter was booked into the Iron County Correctional Facility for investigation of four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of felony discharge of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
