PROVO — An American Fork man was charged with attempted murder Thursday after he allegedly stabbed someone for not selling him drugs.
Police said the victim was working on a vehicle in a motel parking lot on Aug. 13 when Jacob Robinson, 36, approached him and asked for drugs. The victim told Robinson he wasn't selling drugs and didn't have any, at which point Robinson became angry and accused the victim of lying, according to charges filed in 4th District Court.
Robinson then walked away from the argument but came back and pulled out a pocket knife, according to police. He then stabbed the victim in the ribs as the victim attempted to block and hit him, the charges state.
The victim was eventually able to knock the knife from Robinson's hand, at which point Robinson retrieved it and walked away "while the victim collapsed screaming," according to charging documents.
The victim underwent emergency surgery for a lacerated spleen and diaphragm, police said.
Robinson was charged with attempted murder, a first-degree felony, and possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, a class A misdemeanor. Police said Robinson is a restricted person because of a felony burglary conviction in 2006.
