SPRINGVILLE — The city has received approval from the state to establish a local youth court

The court employs restorative justice, which involves panels of trained youth volunteers conducting court hearings, deliberating, and coming to a consensus on a sentence for offending juveniles. The sentence focuses on creating opportunities to repair harm, increasing competency to be a productive member of society, and connecting youths to the community.

The city is seeking interested students ages 14-18 and adult mentors to serve on the youth court. Court will be held on Thursdays, 6-8 p.m. in the Springville Justice Court, 110 S. Main.
