The origins of fantasy role-playing are strongly tied to the use of miniatures. Small versions of knights, dragons, orcs and goblins help players visualize the fantasy realm and transport them to the fantasy world. Collecting and painting miniatures can be expensive and time-consuming, but the wizards at Paizo Publishing have produced a solution: Pathfinder Pawns.

Pathfinder Pawns are full-color cardboard miniatures that are punched out and slipped onto round plastic bases for easy use in role-playing games or miniature battles. Several different sets have been published that complement some of Paizo’s other products such as the "Bestiary," "NPC Codex" or "Inner Sea NPC Codex."

The Pathfinder Bestiary hardback book contains art and descriptions of fantasy monsters. The companion "Pathfinder Pawns: Bestiary Box" contains cardboard miniatures for more than 250 of the creatures that inhabit the lands of Pathfinder. From the kobold warrior to the adult red dragon, all of the classic monsters are present and fully illustrated. The assembled monsters come in four sizes: small, medium, large and huge. For $40, role-playing gamers can collect tons of miniatures with one purchase. This is a core product for miniature collectors.

Designed to go hand in hand with the NPC Codex hardbound book, the Pathfinder Pawns NPC Codex box contains more than 300 villains, potential allies, powerful companions and legendary characters for use in the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game or other fantasy games. The box divides the cardboard miniatures into groups such as barbarians, bards, clerics, druids, fighters, monks, paladins, rangers, rogues, sorcerers, wizards, prestige classes, NPC classes, iconics and animal companions.

The Inner Sea Pawn Box contains miniatures representing the characters from the interesting and diverse setting of the Inner Sea region of the Pathfinder world. The set contains more than 200 character pawns that can be used with the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game or other fantasy games. The set consists of small, medium and large figures with names such as the Poog of Zarongel, Gray Maiden, Jarl Gnargorak and Alain on Donahan. This is a good product for those who want to expand beyond the base sets and add more character miniatures to the game. Many of the characters featured in the Inner Sea Codex book are featured as miniatures in this pawn box.
