As I headed out across the driveway this morning to retrieve the morning paper, I wondered which of the pressing issues of the day would be addressed on the front pages. Would it be the problems of illegal immigration? Maybe the issues that the hopeful presidential candidates feel would award them the nomination? Or would it be how our state was going to address the air pollution that would surely be a problem in the impending winter months?

I grabbed the paper and there were facts and concerns regarding one of the most pressing issues in my life here in the mountains of Utah — what is going to be done to solve the problems of a declining labor force and the low literacy rate in India? I can hardly wait for tomorrow’s paper to see if there will be a follow-up article on this mind-consuming topic.

I don't know who it is that selects the front-page headlines that are supposed to inflame interest and sell newspapers, but they are failing miserably if that is what these headlines are supposed to accomplish. It's getting to where I just skip the first section and go to the comics and sports.
