OREM — Just a day removed from a 2-1 exhibition victory over in-state foe Weber State, the Utah Valley University women's soccer team held its annual Green & White Scrimmage at Clyde Field on Saturday evening, and the White team reigned supreme with a 2-0 shutout over the Green squad.

"The Green & White Game is important for us," head coach Brent Anderson said. "We had a nice match at Weber State on Friday, and we tried to put a few things that we needed to work on in play tonight. And I thought that the girls did a nice job of executing those.

"The White team certainly had a little more energy and did a good job of spreading the field, while Green got into a game of chasing the ball and seemed to wear out quicker, so we didn't see as much attack from them. But overall, I liked the energy that White brought to the field, and they way that they opened the game up."

Junior Taylor Kirk started the scoring for the White team as she beat the goalkeeper in the 19th minute, following a beautiful feed from senior Kasandra Anderson, to give her squad a 1-0 advantage for the second time in as many days. Team White then capped its scoring in the 31st minute when sophomore Tori Smith collected the ball in the center of the 18 and chipped it over the keeper's head to extend her team's lead to 2-0.

"We saw a couple of nice goals tonight from Taylor and Tori," Anderson added. "We're expecting big things from both this season, and it was great to see them each of them find the back of the net."

The UVU women's soccer team also hosted its annual Alumni Game following the conclusion of the Green & White Scrimmage on Saturday evening, and the contest featured a slew of former Wolverine greats over the past decade.

"We love the Alumni Game. It's always a lot of fun to get them back out to Clyde Field and have them interact with our current team so they can learn their history and know where our team has come from," Anderson said.

Saturday's contests marked the final tune-ups for the Wolverines, as they will officially open their 2015 season at San Diego State on Friday, Aug. 21.
