We are excited for everything. This is our first game on a new field, we have newcomers that we are optimistic about. We have a lot of kids that will make a big impact. – Skyline head coach Justin Thompson

SALT LAKE CITY — The Skyline High school football team and it's players have put in rigorous and intensive hours to prepare for the season opener tonight against Hurricane. Now that the day has come, head coach Justin Thompson said that they are trying to remain calm and collected for tonight’s game. “We don’t want our kids going into this game feeling tense," he said. "We want them to be calm and ready.”

The team has been working on a new offensive scheme, as well as a defensive strategy that Thompson is excited to implement in tonight’s game against the Hurricane Tigers, 7 p.m. at Skyline High School.

Thompson said that his players in both units — offense and defense — should contribute to Skyline football’s success this year.

“We are excited for everything," he said. "This is our first game on a new field, we have newcomers that we are optimistic about. We have a lot of kids that will make a big impact.”

Thompson said that senior Riley Sharpe will move as a key component on defense. “He is a kid with a bright future, and should have an excellent season."

With tonight’s game approaching, Thompson is looking forward to watching his players take the field.

“For the new players to go out and show the team what they’ve got this year — it's something that every coach looks forward to,” he said. “Because they were patient, and worked hard during last season, and have earned that position on the team.”
