Utah Department of Transportation and its I-15 South Davis Improvements project team hosted a project milestone celebration event on Friday.
Community leaders gathered and UDOT employees planted trees at the 2600 South exit in Bountiful to mark the occasion.
The I-15 South Davis Improvements Project added Express Lanes to I-15 in both directions from the north I-215 interchange to U.S. 89/Park Lane in Farmington. It fills the gap in Express Lanes between North Salt Lake and Farmington, completing the longest continuous high-occupancy vehicle lane in the U.S.
The HOV lanes between North Salt Lake and Farmington are currently only open to carpoolers until the payment system is commissioned this fall.
Additionally, bridges were replaced at 2600 South, 1500 South, 500 South and 400 North as a part of the project. The 2600 South and 500 South interchanges were reconfigured to improve east-west mobility by creating a modified continuous flow intersection at 2600 South and a diverging diamond interchange at 500 South.
The project also improved pedestrian facilities at 2600 South, 500 South and 400 North, and added a new pedestrian bridge at Parrish Lane in Centerville.
