PRESTON, Idaho — A Utah man was found dead on Friday after getting separated from his group on a tubing trip in Idaho, police say.

According to Franklin County Sheriff's Office chief deputy Karen Hatch, Alan Jay Read, 65, of Trenton, was found dead in the Oneida Narrows in southeast Idaho.

Hatch said people flagged down a Franklin County deputy patrolling the river around 4:15 p.m. on Friday and explained they had been separated from Read while floating on the river.

Deputies and search and rescue members recovered Read's body after other tubers notified them they had spotted someone in the river, according to Hatch.

Although investigators have not yet determined the cause of death, Hatch said Read appears to have drowned. It's also possible Read had a medical emergency before drowning, she said.
