Utah Grizzlies head coach and General Manager Tim Branham announced Tuesday the signing of forward Ryan Walters for the 2015-2016 season.
Walters, 24, enters his second professional season after scoring 43 points in 46 games for the Alaska Aces on 20 goals and 23 assists last year. Walters had one goal and seven assists for eight points in 20 games for the AHL’s Iowa Wild.
“Ryan is a highly skilled, dynamic player,” Branham said. “You definitely need to be aware of him any time he is on the ice. We are pleased to have him on our side now.”
The Minnesota native led Alaska with six goals against Utah last year and had seven points in seven games against the Grizzlies. He was a college teammate of Grizzlies forward Brent Gwidt at the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he had 134 points in 152 college games on 50 goals and 84 assists.
He finished second in the nation in scoring during his junior season in 2012-2013 with 52 points in 39 games on 22 goals and 30 assists. He finished as a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award that season as well.
The Grizzlies home opening weekend is Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24, against the Allen Americans.
