It's hard to put an exact number on how far people must go to meet their goals and how long it'll take, but for bicycle missionary Judy Bowman, 1.8 million miles biked in 20 years has brought her close to enlightenment.
Emma Green of The Atlantic reported Bowman began organizing missionary trips on bike in 1995. Since, more than 1,000 people have joined her, and she's made 12 coast-to-coast and 25 smaller trips with the group she organized, WHEEL POWER Christian Cyclists.
At 65 years old, Bowman rarely leads trips anymore, Green wrote, but she looks for ways to continue to contribute to the cause, including a 7,200-mile motorcycle trip in 2012.
For Bowman, the decision to keep "riding bikes for Jesus" is simple, The Atlantic reported.
“The purpose is to bring Christians, and we come together as a body of believers to go out and be a witness for the Lord,” Bowman told Green. “Jesus gave us a command: Go and make a disciple of all nations.”
And Bowman believes coming together because of faith can happen anywhere, according to The Atlantic.
"… salvation can occur in the local grocery store, post office, bank, at work, when we're on vacation, or wherever we are,” Bowman said.
Bowman and WHEEL POWER keep at it in 2015, with multiple voyages scheduled throughout the summer and fall. View the slideshow below to see places Bowman has tried to instill faith.
