MAGNA — Unified police were looking Tuesday for the person or people who fired several rounds at a house where a man was killed in a drive-by shooting a year ago.
About 2:10 a.m., someone fired multiple rounds at 3807 S. Armoridge Drive (8180 West). Ten shell casings were recovered at the scene. A boat in the driveway had seven bullet holes in it, said Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell. Two more bullet holes were found in the side of the house, and the 10th shot had not been accounted for as of Tuesday.
None of the shots entered the residence and no one was injured. A neighbor saw a silver compact car racing toward 8000 West with no headlights shortly after hearing the shots fired, Bell said.
The house is the same residence where Carlos Martinez, 40, was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting on May 4, 2014, while he was standing outside the house. Martinez's widow and children still live in the residence, Bell said.
However, he said there was no initial evidence to show Tuesday's shooting is related to last year's homicide. The alleged shooter in that case, Joe Perez, who was 17 at the time of the incident, is charged with murder and eight counts of discharge of a firearm. His next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 23.
Investigators were looking Tuesday at whether Martinez's son was the intended target of Tuesday's shooting, Bell said.
Police say the shooting was also not connected to the two recent homicide investigations of Shelli Marie Brown and Stevan Ryan Chambers.
Anyone with information on the shooting can call police at 801-743-3000.
