SALT LAKE CITY — A man whose car was stolen was victimized a second time Wednesday afternoon, police said, when he was hit and injured while confronting the person who stole his vehicle.
The man was hospitalized in serious condition with a head injury, but was later stabilized, Salt Lake police detective Cody Lougy said.
Police are searching for the man who allegedly pulled a U-turn on 1300 East after getting into an argument with the victim, ran him over, and fled around 2:20 p.m.
The victim was in traffic with his wife on 1300 East near 2000 South when he reportedly noticed the 1999 purple Subaru Outback a few cars ahead was his own. The man got out of his vehicle to confront the driver of the Subaru, which had been stolen earlier Wednesday afternoon, Lougy said.
Police shut down 1300 East north of 2000 South while they investigated the scene. The Subaru was found about 5:30 p.m. at 740 E. 1400 South, but police were still looking for the driver.
Salt Lake police describe the man who allegedly carried out the hit-and-run as white, 25- to 30-years-old, thin and with a light complexion. The man has short hair, according to investigators. No description of his clothing was available.
