DRAPER — One man was killed and two others critically injured Friday when they were shocked while working on the roof of a gymnastics center.
Police say employees of a roofing company were on the roof of Bailie's Gymnastics, 88 W. 13100 South, about 10:45 a.m. when an aluminum ladder fell onto a power line.
One man was already on the roof, and investigators believe others may have been attempting to get equipment to him when the ladder hit the power line, said Unified Fire Authority spokesman Dave Ulibarri.
At least three workers were in contact with the ladder when it hit the 7,200-volt power line.
Aaron Garn, 39, of Eagle Mountain, was killed in the incident, and another worker went into cardiac arrest, Ulibarri said. Crews responding to the scene were able to get a pulse back on that man after administering first aid, he said.
A third man was taken to a local hospital by ambulance in critical condition. Both injured men remained in critical condition Friday night at Intermountain Medical Center.
The worker who was on the roof witnessed the accident and called 911, Ulibarri said.
The voltage of the power line is common for what is used to serve homes or small businesses, according to Rocky Mountain Power. The company was called to make repairs in the area and finished there late Friday afternoon.
Utah Occupational Safety and Health was called to the scene to conduct its own investigation.
