MAGNA — An elderly Magna man was hit and killed by a minivan while crossing the street to get food Friday evening.
Unified police say Gordon Dean, in his early 90s, was crossing 3500 South just after 7 p.m. when he was hit by a westbound van.
Unified Police Lt. Jared Richardson said the position of the sun in the sky may have contributed to the crash. It was unknown Friday evening whether excessive speed was a factor. Police were also investigating whether Dean had the right of way.
Dean lived just a few blocks away and was crossing the street to buy food, according to Richardson. Nobody in the van was injured.
Several people witnessed the crash, Richardson said.
