Former University of Utah and Bingham High School defensive tackle Star Lotulelei has hit a snag as he prepares for his third season with the Carolina Panthers.
Lotulelei was carted off the field at Panthers practice Monday after experiencing soreness in his surgically repaired right foot, according to the Charlotte Observer. He was examined by team doctor Robert Anderson.
“Hopefully it’ll be good news,” Carolina head coach Ron Rivera said. “And we’re being very optimistic about it, and we might be being overly protective. So hopefully that’s exactly what it is.”
Lotulelei broke his foot in January.
Selected with the 14th overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, Lotulelei has appeared in 30 games over two seasons for the Panthers.
