I write this letter as a plea to my representatives: Sens. Orrin Hatch and Mike Lee and Rep. Mia Love, and to all my fellow constituents. I work in a school with students I sincerely love and care for. I aim to arm them now with minds that critically think and empathetic hearts so they may be happy and successful in overcoming life’s storms with wisdom and kindness. Yet I sincerely worry for the present and the future, thus my supplication.

The Pentagon says climate change is an “urgent and growing threat.” Pope Francis warns that “doomsday predictions can no longer be met with irony or disdain.” NASA and the majority of scientific organizations continually beat the drum for action and cost of inaction. Even Shell oil states “government action is needed and we support an international framework that puts a price on carbon.”

For our sake and the sake of my students and all of our beloved children and grandchildren, we must act. To my neighbors I ask that we support one another in reducing our carbon footprint and unite our voices for action and change. Get involved! To my leaders I beg of you: we need a courageous, conservative voice to introduce legislation, to stand up and lead.
