A 21-year-old woman is ecstatic when she gets pregnant, until she finds out the child has no heartbeat.
Constance, now 27 years old, talks about her pregnancy, drug addiction, jail time and conversion to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in a video posted Aug. 26 by FamilySearch.
In the video, Constance, whose last name is not given, says she entered a "low, dark, depressing period" after the miscarriage, and she turned to drugs to cope.
As a heroin addict, Constance again became pregnant and gave birth to a little boy. When her son was born with complications, the state took him and put a warrant out for her arrest.
While spending nine months in jail after turning herself in, Constance participated in an indexing program offered by FamilySearch, which is owned by the LDS Church.
Through the indexing program, Constance was introduced to the LDS Church's Sunday services. After being released from jail, she was baptized. She continued to gather family names and was baptized in the temple for them.
Indexing helped Constance discover where she came from and her potential.
