PROVO — BYU junior forward Ashley Hatch was named to the Missouri Athletic Club’s Hermann Trophy Watch List on Wednesday.
Hatch is one of 28 women on the watch list and one of 13 who were also NSCAA All-Americans in 2014. The forward from Gilbert, Arizona, was the West Coast Conference Player of the Year and earned two All-America Third Team honors after finishing in the top 10 in goals and points per game with 18 goals and 42 points.
Hatch is the sixth BYU player to make the watch list and first since Lindsi Lisonbee Cutshall was nominated in 2011 and 2012. Other MAC Hermann Trophy nominees from BYU were Aleisha Rose, Jessica Harmon Carter, Katie Larkin and Andrea Willis. Of that group only Cutshall in 2012 was a semifinalist.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete.
In November, the list will be narrowed to 15 semifinalists before three finalists are chosen, with the winner announced in January. This year fans will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite semifinalist in November.
BYU will face two other players on the watch list when it takes on Stanford in Hawaii on Aug. 24. Stanford’s keeper Jane Campbell and midfielder Andi Sullivan both made their first appearance on the watch list.
