SALT LAKE CITY — Utah coach Kyle Whittingham said the second day of all-camp was better than the first.

“It was another solid practice — a little bit longer than yesterday,” Whittingham said after Friday morning’s session at Ute Field. “Start to finish it was really clean, really pleased with it.”

Whittingham explained that another dose of the offense was installed, adding that the process — what they want to complete in camp — will take six or seven practices to complete.

Things are going well.

“Light years ahead of where we were this time last fall as you would expect,” Whittingham said.

The defense also had a better day. Whittingham noted improvements in running to the ball and playmaking. It was the second consecutive day, however, where the offense didn’t turn the ball over.

THE QUARTERBACKS: As the first week of camp progresses, Whittingham said that senior Travis Wilson and Kendal Thompson are playing exceptionally well. He added that redshirt freshman Chase Hansen is also doing some good things.

“But until we get some pads on and some live work, you never really see what you need to see,” Whittingham said. “It’d all good right now. You want to see execution and you want to see reads and decision-making that are happening the correct way, but the bottom line with that position is you’ve got to make plays and you see that when you get the pads on.”

AT THE MOVIES: Whittingham is a big fan of the Chevy Chase movie “Vacation.” He’s yet to see the reboot, though, that is currently in theaters.

“I’ve heard about it. I will see it,” said Whittingham, who expressed 100 percent support in the sort-of remake.
