HURRICANE — A woman is dead after a two-vehicle collision in an intersection Friday afternoon, police said.

A 51-year-old woman was driving a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville south on 1150 West about 4 p.m. when the vehicle collided with a 2006 GMC Sierra traveling west on State Street.

The woman was extricated from the Bonneville and taken by ambulance to Dixie Regional Medical Center, where she succumbed to her injuries, said Hurricane Police Sgt. Brandon Buell. A 36-year-old man driving the Sierra was also hospitalized there, where he was listed in stable condition.

The name of the deceased woman wasn't immediately released.

Buell said police are still investigating what caused the two vehicles to crash in the intersection. He didn't say whether alcohol, drugs or excessive speed are considered as possible factors.

Eastbound traffic on State Street was closed for about 90 minutes after the crash.

"Our hearts go out to the families involved. This is such a tragic incident," Buell said in a prepared statement.
