WEST JORDAN — Police say the body of a Taylorsville man found near the Viridian West Jordan Library & Event Center Sunday was decomposing and had likely been there for quite some time.

The body of a Wayne Scott Johnson, 28, was found by a pair of young skateboarders about 9:30 p.m. in a generator storage area near the library, 8030 S. 1825 West, said West Jordan Police Sgt. Joe Monson. The skateboarders found the body after smelling an extremely foul odor, he said.

Drug paraphernalia, a bike and a backpack were found near the body, Monson said. An autopsy by the Utah State Medical Examiner's Office will likely determine the exact cause of death, but police suspect a drug overdose.

According to drug-related charges filed against Johnson in 2012 in 3rd District Court, he told police at the time that he had a heroin addiction.
