HEBER CITY — The Utah Department of Transportation plans to install a new system to make Main Street safer.
The Hawk Traffic System is activated by a pedestrian and lights up an overhead yellow blinking signal light, informing both directions of travel that a pedestrian is preparing to cross. The signal will then turn to a solid red light, stopping both directions of travel and allowing the pedestrian to cross safely.
The system will be installed at 250 S Main. UDOT will then remove the crosswalks at 200 South and 300 South and direct all pedestrians to use the new system. There will be no-parking signs on that block to avoid any possible visibility issues that might occur due to vehicles parked on either side of the system.
Next, UDOT will install a “your speed” sign north of the 500 N. Main traffic light and south of the 1200 S. Main traffic light to slow down traffic coming into Heber on Main Street.
At 100 N. Main, UDOT will be installing flashing lights activated by pedestrians crossing at the intersection.
UDOT expects the project to be finished before winter.
