The recently completed I-15 expansion has been much heralded. We now have four lanes in both directions and an HOV lane to accommodate what has been an increased flow of traffic in and out of Davis County for years now. I have lived here since 1992; along with many, I've anxiously awaited the completion of this expansion.
My wife and I drove into Salt Lake from Farmington just after this project finished. Driving across the 500 South and 2600 South overpasses can best be described as something akin to riding on poorly paved railroad tracks. It was nowhere close to a smooth, seamless, connection from the main freeway strip to the bridge section. What happened? Was there an urgent deadline to be met which caused corners to be cut? Or sloppy work from a construction crew with little incentive to do a good job because of no oversight? Where is the accountability?
Regardless, the many tens of millions of dollars spent and years invested into this project should have yielded far better results. My business requires near perfect execution and desired outcomes or I risk losing a customer and payment for the job. What recourse do we have?
