If you are any sort of college football fan, you've already heard all about Tanner Mangum's last-second touchdown pass to stun Nebraska on Saturday.
However, there's some things that might get lost among all the emotion of BYU's bittersweet win. For BYU fans that made the journey to Lincoln, it really was an unforgettable experience, and not simply because of the game.
Nebraska fans really are the nicest fans ever
Cornhusker fans have a reputation for being the nicest fans in college football, and they did not disappoint on Saturday. Several BYU fans and members of the media that made the trip to Lincoln commented on how wonderful Nebraska fans are:
The most impressive thing was that Nebraska was this courteous to visiting BYU fans both before and after the game. There's almost nothing worse in sports than to watch your team lose at the last second. So, hats off to the Huskers for being so nice.
Ute fan makes the trip to Lincoln just to cheer against BYU
BYU isn't scheduled to play Utah until next season, but that didn't stop at least one Ute fan from finding a way to cheer against the Cougars in person.
Meet Chet Albanese, the proud Utah fan who spent his Saturday in Lincoln just to root against BYU. It was so remarkable, Brian Rosenthal of the Lincoln Journal Star did a story about it. The most humorous part of the story was when Albanese tried to claim that the BYU vs. Utah rivalry doesn't matter anymore.
"We already won because we’re in the Pac-12 and they have nothing,” Albanese told Rosenthal. “It’s like the best victory ever. It’s not even a rivalry anymore.”
It's too bad Rosenthal wasn't able to find Albanese after the game to ask him if it was worth the trip. Interestingly, Albanese also commented on how nice Nebraska fans are.
"And Nebraska fans are awesome. They’re treating me like I’m at home," Albanese said.
Perhaps folks from both sides of this heated rivalry could learn a lesson or two from the Huskers.
Streaks broken and streaks extended
Just about every article reaping BYU's last-second win over Nebraska mentions that this loss is the first home-opener the Huskies have lost in 30 years. However, one most impressive streak is still going strong.
Saturday's game was the Huskers' 341st consecutive sellout. This streak goes all the way back to 1962. That's an NCAA record, by the way. It's also 96 games ahead of second-place Notre Dame.
And there's no doubt that every seat in Memorial Stadium was filled. A careful look over the crowd on the TV broadcast confirms that the Huskers filled their house.
It was another example of an exemplary college football fan base.
Dwyane Wade plays catch with his wife before the game
Two of the 89,959 people who filled Memorial Stadium were none other than Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade and his wife Gabrielle Union. Union was born in Omaha, Nebraska, so naturally there's a tie between her and the Huskers.
The Huskers rolled out the red carpet for this superstar couple, and even let them play catch before the game. Unfortunately for the Huskers, Wade was as powerless as everybody else in the stands to stop Mangum's Hail Mary.
