Dixie State reserve freshman goalkeeper Zach Nielson was named Pacific West Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday for his play in the Trailblazers’ 1-0 win at BYU-Hawaii last Saturday.
In his first collegiate start, Nielson (6-foot-4; West Point, Utah/Northridge HS) made a career-high five saves en route to his first-career shutout on the road against the PacWest’s top-scoring team. Nielson is now the fourth Trailblazer to earn the PacWest’s weekly freshman honor, joining midfielder Jandir Porta (Sept. 12) and forwards Christian Hall (Sept. 26) and Moises Medina (Oct. 4) on the list.
PacWest leader Dixie State (7-3-0, 5-0-0) will put its seven-match winning streak on the line Monday at Hawai’i Pacific, followed by games at Hawai'i Hilo (Oct. 13) and Chaminade (Oct. 15) to close out its 2016 regular season road slate.
