Dixie State’s men’s golf team stands in ninth place after the opening two rounds at the Colorado Mesa RMAC No. 2 Maverick Invitational played Monday at the par-70, 6,442-yard Tiara Rado Golf Course in Grand Junction.
In a field that features all nine RMAC schools that sponsor men’s golf, the Trailblazers opened with a first-round 17-over 297. However, DSU shaved 10 strokes off that total on its second loop as the Trailblazers carded a 7-over 287 to finish with a two-round total of +24 584.
Colorado School of Mines (284-270) blistered the course with a two-round total of minus-6 554 and will enter Tuesday’s final round with a five-shot lead over second-place Colorado-Colorado Springs (283-276-559, -1) and a 10-shot edge over CMU (286-278-564, +4).
Sophomore John Reid (-3, 137) finished day one in a three-way tie for sixth place overall after an even par 70 in round one and a 3-under 67 in round two. Fellow sophomore Nicklaus Britt (+4, 144) is tied for 24th place after consecutive rounds of 2-over 72, while freshman Jayce Frampton (+5 145) rebounded from an opening 78 by firing a 67 in his second round.
