"THE BEAUTIFUL BALANCE: Claiming Personal Control and Giving the Rest to God," by Michelle Wilson, Covenant Communications, $14.99, 139 pages (nf)

Author Michelle Wilson's newest book, "The Beautiful Balance: Claiming Personal Control and Giving the Rest to God," helps readers decipher what they can control from what they have to leave in God's hands.

Wilson, a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, discusses how people can gain a "beautiful balance" in their lives by realizing what they can actually control and letting go of the rest by giving it to God.

Divided into two parts, Wilson shares personal stories with other accounts and insights combined with scriptures and quotes from LDS Church leaders to teach readers key principles.

The first section explains to readers how to submit to only having control over themselves and that they can't force others or situations into submission. This has a lot more to do with attitudes and choosing how they feel about any given situation than anything else. However, Wilson explains how people can have influence with others through teaching and other means. Yet, they have to leave it up to others to make their choices — to obey or not to obey.

The second part details the need for a person to submit his or her will to God and let the rest go. Since people can only control themselves and simply influence others, to find peace they must be willing to submit themselves and their will to God and leave the rest in his hands.

Wilson shares examples and scriptures that can help readers increase their faith and hope, and gain more understanding to find a balance of controlling what they can control and relying on God for the rest.

The principles in "The Beautiful Balance" can be used in families to teach principles of the gospel.
