Dixie State basketball: Trailblazers sign Utah prep guard Mariah Martin

Dixie State women’s basketball head coach JD Gustin has announced the signing of Utah prep guard Mariah Martin, who will join the Trailblazers beginning in the 2017-18 season.

Martin, a 5-foot-7 point guard from Sandy, Utah, is a senior and four-year starter at Alta High School and has helped the Hawks to three region championships. Martin averaged 15.9 points per game as a junior and has logged 1,008 points, 297 assists, 239 rebounds and 167 steals in her varsity career, earning first team All-Region and All-State honors three times along with one Region MVP award.

“To get a point guard of Mariah’s caliber in our first recruiting class is a really big deal for our program,” Gustin said. “It helps us lay the foundation of who we want Dixie State basketball to be. Mariah is a high character kid that excels in the classroom and is no doubt one of the top players in Utah, and in my opinion, the West Coast. She is a true point guard who can pass, shoot, score and has certain intangibles that make her special. I’ve recruited her for three years to three different universities and am very grateful for the opportunity to now coach her.”
