SALT LAKE CITY — St. George Police continue to investigate the death of a family dog named Chewy at the hands of a neighbor after a Facebook posting of a young girl describing the incident appeared on Facebook.

"On November 11th, at approximately 4:30 p.m., St. George Police Officers were dispatched to a report of a dog that had been killed in the area of 2040 East, in St. George. It was reported that the dog was killed by a neighbor," St. George Police reported on its Facebook page.

"What is known and is not in dispute, is that a small dog entered the neighbor’s yard and approached the man, who was maintaining his landscaping. The man swung a long handled pruning sheer at the dog when it approached him. The sheers ended up striking the dog in the head, killing it instantly," police said in the posting.

The incident was allegedly witnessed by the dog owner's young daughter. No charges have been filed in the case.

“I watched him wack him,” she cried. Watch the video below.

Officers received statements from the parties involved, but were later given information which required follow up interviews due to conflicting accounts on what the man intended to do when the small pet approached him.

The St. George Police Department shared a note on Facebook below saying they have yet to determine a proper course of action.
