Utah football: Utes move up to No. 11 in AP, coaches polls after top teams falter

Following a wild Saturday that saw five of the top 10 teams in the country lose, there was chatter that the Utah Utes would have a place in that company this week after they beat Arizona State 49-26 on Thursday.

In both the AP and coaches polls, Kyle Whittingham's club is still on the outside looking in, as it's ranked No. 11 in the polls released Sunday.

The Utes were No. 12 in the coaches poll and No. 13 in the AP poll last week.

As far as the rest of the Pac-12 goes, Washington dropped from No. 4 to No. 7 in the polls after falling to USC on Saturday. The Trojans are now ranked No. 15 in the AP poll. Colorado is at No. 12, while Washington State is No. 20.

Alabama remained atop the polls, both of which have an identical top eight. Ohio State and Louisville replace Clemson and Michigan in the second and third spots, and the Tigers and Wolverines are at Nos. 4 and 5, respectively. Wisconsin is No. 6 and Oklahoma is No. 8.

Penn State and West Virginia come in at Nos. 9 and 10 in the AP poll just before Utah. They're flipped in the coaches poll.

The Utes are No. 15 in the College Football Playoff rankings, which will be updated on Tuesday.
