Dixie State’s women’s volleyball team opened the final week of the 2016 regular season on a high note as the Trailblazers stopped a three-match losing skid with a straight-set sweep of BYU-Hawaii in the final meeting between the two sides Monday night at the DSU Student Activities Center.

The win moved DSU to 16-11 on the year, 12-7 in Pacific West Conference play, while the Seasiders fell to 6-21, 4-14 overall as BYU-H enters its final week of collegiate competition before the program ends this weekend.

BYU-H led for most of the first set and held a 15-12 advantage before the Trailblazers managed to rattle off three-straight points to knot the set at 15-15. DSU then went on to outscore the Seasiders, 10-4, the rest of the way to claim the opening frame, 25-19. Dixie State led wire-to-wire in the second stanza en route to a 25-19 set win and used a decisive 13-4 run to close out the final frame (25-14) to secure the sweep.

Senior outside hitter Delayne Daniel threw down a game-high 16 kills and hit .344 in the match to go with seven digs and two total blocks. Meanwhile, junior middle blocker Malary Marshall, who was playing against her former team for the final time, finished with six kills and collected a career-high 10 total blocks, including two solo stops against her former mates.

In addition, senior middle blocker Lindsay Garrett and junior rightside hitter Brette Anderson each had six kills, while Anderson added five total blocks to her ledger and senior setter Kailey Frei posted her sixth double-double of the year with 32 assists and 11 digs.

Dixie State hit .316 as a team, including a .424 clip in the second set, while the Trailblazer defense finished with 11 total team blocks and 45 digs in holding the Seasiders to just a .074 hitting percentage.

Dixie State wraps up the regular season this Saturday vs. Point Loma at noon, inside the DSU SAC. Saturday’s match will also serve as “Senior Day” as Daniel, Frei, Garrett and Megan Huddleston will each play in their final home match.
