Letter: Electoral College

Having just suffered a resounding defeat at the ballot box, liberals are calling for an end to the Electoral College. An election by pure popular vote would certainly ensure that the most populous states had their voices heard, while neglecting the voices of the smaller, less populous states. We live in a constitutional republic, not a democracy. We elect people to represent us, from the grass-roots level up to the national level. This is all outlined very plainly in our Constitution and is applicable to the Electoral College as well. Our Founding Fathers very wisely provided for this provision to safeguard and protect the rights of the individual states.
