SALT LAKE CITY — A shootout with police left one man injured Thursday night just over the Utah border in Wendover, Nevada, police said.

The man, who police did not immediately identify, was allegedly shooting a gun inside the Southern Exposure Club at 1890 Plateau Way in West Wendover. Police said officers arrived two minutes after receiving a call from the club and confronted the suspect after he fled in a car and crashed into a guard rail on the corner of West Wendover Boulevard and Camper Drive.

The man began firing at police from inside his car and two officers shot back, Burdel Welsh, West Wendover police chief, said. The shooting stopped and officers demanded that the man exit his vehicle. But he refused and that led to a 39 minute standoff as more officers arrived at the scene. At 9:28 p.m. the injured man left his car and dropped to the ground, Welsh said.

The man was taken into custody and officers discovered that he "suffered an apparent bullet wound to his chest" and leg injuries. He was taken to a Salt Lake City hospital. His condition was not immediately available.
