HUNTSVILLE, Weber County — The Utah Department of Transportation will close state Route 39, the Monte Cristo Highway, to all travel at midnight on Monday. The road is closed for the winter due to motorist safety concerns and the prohibitive costs of keeping it open to traffic.

The road will close between milepost 37 at the Ant Flat Road area east of Huntsville and milepost 56 near Woodruff, Rich County. Once the gates are closed and locked, the entire length of the roadway between these two points will remain out of service to all traffic through approximately late May 2017. Closed signs are posted on both gates, indicating that it is illegal for motorized and nonmotorized traffic to access the area.

Motorists who normally use the highway should use I-84 and I-80 via Evanston, Wyoming, and U.S. 89 through Logan Canyon to access the areas on both sides of this closure.
