President Russell M. Nelson, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and his wife, Wendy Watson Nelson, are the latest to join the lineup for the 2017 RootsTech conference’s Family Discovery Day on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. Kalani Sitake, Vai Sikahema and Hank Smith are already on the roster for the free one-day event.
The Family Discovery Day is specifically designed for families and members of the LDS Church, according to a Monday press release for RootsTech.
Both President Nelson and his wife have doctoral degrees in their respective fields. In his professional career, President Nelson was a world-renowned heart surgeon and medical researcher. Sister Nelson was a professor of marriage and family therapy for 25 years before her marriage to President Nelson 13 years ago. Sister Nelson spoke at RootsTech’s Family Discovery Day in 2016 and shared her passion for genealogy.
