PROVO — Police arrested a transient Wednesday suspected of being involved in the death of another man earlier this week.

Ammon Brown was found dead near a transient camp near railroad tracks at 1640 S. State in Provo on Monday. Police said he suffered a deep cut to his neck as appeared to have been beaten.

Emmanuel DePaz, 18, was linked to the victim through video surveillance. Cameras recorded DePaz with the victim and another person of interest at the crime scene on Monday, near the railroad tracks at 1640 S. State, according to a statement from Provo police.

Investigators distributed DePaz's image to UTA Transit police, who located DePaz at a downtown Salt Lake train station on Wednesday.

Police obtained a warrant and searched his backpack. They reported finding a hatchet and a knife. The hatchet matches one witnesses reported being taken from the place where the victim's body was found.

DePaz was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of aggravated murder.
