PROVO — A motorcyclist died Friday after colliding with a Jeep Wrangler in Provo, police said.

Jaxsen Allred, 38, was northbound on State Street near 2200 South around 4:30 p.m. when the southbound Jeep turned left in front of his motorcycle, said Provo Police Sgt. Brian Taylor.

Allred "was unable to stop in time" and struck the passenger side of the Jeep, Taylor said. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died.

A passenger in the Jeep, 37-year-old Melissa Wilkens, was also transported to a hospital, where she was listed in serious but stable condition with head injuries. The Jeep's driver, 42-year-old John Duncan, transported himself to a hospital and is expected to be fine, Taylor said. A 12-year-old passenger in the Jeep was not injured.

The motorcycle was traveling at "a high rate of speed," Taylor said. What caused the crash was still being investigated Friday evening.
