Utah Grizzlies: Alaska uses second period outburst to defeat Utah

A 1-0 Utah lead at the first intermission didn’t hold, as Alaska used a three-goal outburst in less than five minutes late in the second period to break a 1-1 tie in a 5-1 defeat of the Utah Grizzlies on Friday night.

Mathieu Aubin’s third goal in four games gave Utah a 1-0 lead 6:33 into the first period on a power-play with Brandon McNally and Tim Daly drawing assists.

The lead held until the first shift of the second period when Alaska tied the game at one just 27 seconds into the frame.

Alaska took a 2-1 lead on a breakaway at 12:24 and scored four-on-four off a faceoff at 15:04 before a power-play goal with 3:21 left in the frame. Alaska scored four-on-four just moments after Utah was denied by Alaska goaltender Kevin Carr as it looked to tie the game. The Aces scored in the final three minutes of regulation to make it 5-1.

Utah goaltender Ryan Faragher dropped to 6-4-0-1 on the night as he stopped 20-of-25 shots.

Utah's next game is Saturday, when it plays at Alaska at 9:15 p.m.
