Brighton opens for the season following 'extensive snowmaking'

Lambert Veenstra dresses as Santa Claus and chats with skiers and snowboarders in the lift line during opening day at Brighton Resort on Friday, Nov. 25, 2016. Veenstra has been skiing at Brighton for more than 55 years and can remember when day passes were under $3.00. The resort said in a statement that "recent snowfall combined with extensive snowmaking" has allowed it to open and groom three of its runs — and that more will be opened "as weather permits." The number of tickets available was restricted in order avoid overcrowding, according to the resort, whose website lists just two of the runs being open and groomed for Saturday.
