Damage from Orem house fire expected to climb past $600,000

OREM — Damage from a fire at a large house in Orem on Sunday may exceed $600,000 in damage, according to the Orem Fire Department.

The fire was reported just before 8 a.m. at 1269 S. 1100 East. Orem Fire Battalion Chief Ryan Peterson said the fire is believed to have started in the chimney and spread to the attic and roof of the approximately 8,000-square-foot home. The cause of the fire was still under investigation Sunday, but it appeared to be accidental, he said.

At least three people were home at the time, including children, Peterson said. All were able to get out safely.

Crews from the Provo and Pleasant Grove Fire Departments were called to assist Orem firefighters. It took crews about 90 minutes to extinguish the flames.
