BYU swim: Texas and Colorado Mesa hold invites for swimmers

,

Texas and Colorado Mesa will each host a portion BYU’s swim team in their respective invitationals this weekend.

“These two invitationals are going to be filled with fast and agile competitors,” said BYU head coach John Brooks. “It’s time for us to rise up and demonstrate our talents and abilities.”

More than half of BYU’s swim team will compete at the meet at Texas (Austin) in the four-day invitational. It is scheduled to begin on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CST, with the 800-yard freestyle relay, the only event of the day. Thursday and Friday begin with prelims at 10 a.m., with finals starting at 6 p.m. On Saturday, events begin at 9 a.m., with the finals taking place at 4 p.m.

Ten teams will participate in the Texas Invitational, four of which currently hold rankings in the top 20 of the NCAA, including Texas, USC, Stanford and Wisconsin.

The swimmers attending the Mesa State Invitational begin competition on Thursday, Dec. 1. That invitational runs through Saturday, with each day of swimming beginning at 10 a.m. MST, and finals starting at 5 p.m.

The divers will not be participating in either invitational, but they will resume competition in January 2017.
