SALT LAKE CITY — Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, said he's looking forward to considering President-elect Donald Trump's nominees to head the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

Trump announced his intent to nominate Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., to serve as health and human services secretary and Seema Verma to head Medicare and Medicaid services. The Senate Finance Committee that Hatch leads will vet both.

"As Republicans chart the course to repeal and replace the health law with patient-centered reforms that increase access to care and reduce costs, both Tom and Seema will play an integral role in leading the effort," Hatch said in a statement.

"Each recognize the fiscal challenges facing Medicare and Medicaid and the need for Congress and the executive branch to work together to develop better ways to shore up these programs and help guarantee they are here for our children and grandchildren."
