NFL locals tracker, Week 12: 31 Utah ties currently in line to make the postseason

With five weeks left in the regular season, 31 players with local ties are on rosters of teams currently in line to make the NFL postseason, based on the latest playoff picture.

That is just over half of the 60 local players currently in the NFL and includes 13 players who started for their respective teams in Week 12.

By comparison, 16 local players made the NFL playoffs last year.

Here's how it breaks down, beginning with the AFC (players are on active roster unless otherwise noted):

LIONS 16, VIKINGS 13

Detroit

Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU: Started at defensive end and had two quarterback hurries on 35 defensive snaps. He also had an originally called strip sack of Sam Bradford that was reversed on further review.

Miles Killebrew, SS, Southern Utah: Had five tackles, including four solo tackles and a special teams tackles, while playing nine defensive snaps and 19 special teams snaps.

Nevin Lawson, CB, Utah State: Started at cornerback and had a solo tackle while playing 51 defensive snaps and six on special teams.

Haloti Ngata, DT, Highland High: Started at defensive tackle and had a solo tackle and a pass deflection while playing 39 defensive snaps and three special teams snaps.

Minnesota

Matt Asiata, RB, Utah, Snow College and Hunter High: Had five carries for 27 yards and a 5-yard touchdown — his fifth touchdown of the season and three receptions for 14 yards while playing 23 offensive snaps and six on special teams.

Kerwynn Williams, RB, Utah State: Had a special teams tackle and took two direct snaps in the wildcat formation on offense — he had an 11-yard carry wiped out by a penalty — while playing two offensive snaps and 16 on special teams.

RAVENS 19, BENGALS 14

Baltimore

Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU: Started at tight end and had three receptions for 34 yards — he now has 52 catches for 439 yards this year — while playing 41 offensive snaps.

Steve Smith Sr., WR, Utah: Started at wide receiver and had four catches for 20 yards — he now has 48 receptions for 536 yards this year — while playing 54 offensive snaps.

Eric Weddle, SS, Utah: Started at strong safety and had seven tackles, including five solo, and a pass deflection while playing all 75 Ravens defensive snaps.

On injured reserve: Bronson Kaufusi, DE, BYU and Timpview High; De’Ondre Wesley, OT, BYU

On practice squad: Robertson Daniel, CB, BYU

Cincinnati

Nick Vigil, ILB, Utah State and Fremont High: Had a special teams tackle while playing two defensive snaps and 21 special teams snaps.

Tennessee

Brice McCain, CB, Utah: Started at defensive back and had a solo tackle and a pass deflection while playing 58 defensive snaps and 10 on special teams.

LeShaun Sims, CB, Southern Utah: Sims, a rookie, had a career-high five solo tackles, tied for second on the team, in his most extensive action of the year. He played 39 defensive snaps and 17 on special teams, though he allowed a touchdown pass in coverage.

Chicago

Paul Lasike, RB/FB, BYU: Played seven offensive snaps and nine on special teams.

Patrick Scales, LS, Utah State and Weber High: Played seven special teams snaps.

SAINTS 49, RAMS 21

New Orleans

Paul Kruger, DE, Utah and Timpanogos High: Kruger started at defensive end and picked up his second fumble recovery of the season and had a quarterback hurry while playing 27 defensive snaps and five on special teams. Kruger recovered the fumble in the second quarter when L.A. quarterback Jared Goff lost the ball while being sacked, and the recovery at the Rams 10 set up a Saints touchdown.

Los Angeles

Maurice Alexander, S, Utah State: Started at free safety and had four tackles, including one solo, while playing 72 defensive snaps and seven on special teams. He now has 35 tackles on the season.

Tampa Bay

Sealver Siliga, DT, Utah and Copper Hills High: Had a tackle on 11 defensive snaps against his former team.

Seattle

Will Tukuafu, FB, East High: Started at fullback and had one carry for 0 yards while playing two offensive snaps, three defensive snaps and 11 on special teams.

Bobby Wagner, LB, Utah State: Wagner started at middle linebacker and had a team-leading 10 tackles, including six solo, while playing all 67 Seahawks defensive snaps and five on special teams. He currently leads the NFL with 118 tackles.


PATRIOTS 22, JETS 17

New England

Eric Rowe, CB, Utah: Started at defensive back and had five tackles, including three solo tackles, and a pass deflection on a third-down play while playing 56 defensive snaps.

Kyle Van Noy, LB, BYU: Van Noy made his first start for the Patriots at linebacker and had two tackles, including one solo, while playing 28 defensive snaps and seven on special teams.

On practice squad: Trevor Reilly, LB, Utah


RAIDERS 35, PANTHERS 32

Oakland

James Cowser, LB/DE, Southern Utah and Davis High: Had a special teams tackle and played 24 special teams snaps in his first regular-season action of his rookie season.

Keith McGill, DB, Utah: Had a special teams tackle on 21 special teams snaps.

Donald Penn, T, Utah State: Started at left tackle and played all 74 Raiders offensive snaps and five on special teams.

Sean Smith, CB, Utah: Smith started at cornerback and had three tackles, including two solo, and a team-high three pass deflections while playing 62 defensive snaps. Two of his pass deflections came on third-down plays.

Carolina

Tyler Larsen, G, Utah State and Jordan High: Played 18 offensive snaps and four on special teams in his most extensive action of the season.

Star Lotulelei, DT, Utah, Snow College and Bingham High: Started at defensive tackle and played 54 defensive snaps and seven on special teams.

Jared Norris, LB, Utah: Had a special teams tackle on 22 special teams snaps.

Paul Soliai, DT, Utah: Had a tackle for loss of minus-3 yards while playing 15 defensive snaps and five on special teams.


CHIEFS 30, BRONCOS 27

Kansas City

Alex Smith, QB, Utah: Smith helped rally the Chiefs to an overtime victory, completing 26 of 44 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown while also rushing twice for 2 yards. He completed a 3-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill with 12 seconds remaining in regulation, then threw a 2-point conversion to Demetrius Harris to force overtime. He then led Kansas City on a 32-yard drive in just over a minute in OT that culminated in the game-winning field goal.

Daniel Sorensen, DB, BYU: Had a solo tackle and a special teams tackle while playing 22 defensive snaps and 35 on special teams.

On practice squad: Jordan Devey, OL, American Fork High and Snow College

Denver

Kapri Bibbs, RB, Snow College: Had nine carries for 22 yards while playing 31 offensive snaps and 23 on special teams.

Devontae Booker, RB, Utah: Started at running back and had 24 carries for 79 yards — including a long run of 13 yards — and one reception for 22 yards while playing 49 offensive snaps.

On injured reserve: Sam Brenner, C, Utah

Green Bay

Marwin Evans, S, Utah State: Had a special teams tackle on 12 special teams snaps.

Kyler Fackrell, OLB, Utah State: Not active for game with a hamstring injury.

On Saturday, linebacker/defensive end James Cowser (Southern Utah and Davis High) was elevated to the Raiders’ active roster from the team’s practice squad.
