20 years ago: Cougars grind up Rice with dominate run game

Steve Sarkisian threw 13 passes, the lowest for a BYU starting quarterback since Steve Lindsley threw just 12 in 1986 against San Diego State, but the Cougars managed to blank Rice 49-0 on the strength of 323 yards on the ground.

The last time BYU had that many yards rushing was in 1989 with 329 yards in a 70-31 win over Utah. Ronney Jenkins (109 yards) became the first BYU freshman with 100 yards in a game since Jamal Willis in 1991.
