If Evan McMullin wanted to make a “statement,” send a “message” and start a “movement” by running for president of the United States, he has already succeeded whether he wins Utah or not. Look at the tremendous international, national, regional and local media coverage about his campaign and the social media explosion about his candidacy from those in support or those opposed. He can thank Donald Trump for that. Until the infamous tape from 2005 was aired, McMullin was only a Don Quixote-type political activist. After the airing of the tape and the angry denouncement by Utah GOP leaders and the public, McMullin started climbing in the polls and subsequent insurgency. The result is that Utah will not be the same for Republicans anymore. Enough of his supporters-turned-voters have made that very clear.
