BYU and Weber State projected to make NCAA Tournament

Dan Hanner and Luke Winn used SI's College Basketball Projection System to rank all 351 college basketball teams heading into the 2016-17 season.

The BYU Cougars were the first local team to appear in the rankings, coming in at No. 45 with projections to finish third in the West Coast Conference and make the NCAA Tournament in one of the play in games.

The Utah Utes came in a next at No. 55 with a sixth place projected finish in the Pac-12, but no NCAA Tournament bid.

Weber State was next up for the local schools at No. 131 with a first place finish in the Big Sky and a No. 15 seed in the Big Dance.

Utah State came in at No. 173 with a projected MWC eighth place finish while Utah Valley came in at No. 258 and Southern Utah landed at No. 333.

George Hill Thriving in Utah

Basketball Insiders' Alex Kennedy took a look at why George Hill is thriving with the Utah Jazz.

After first talking about the issues the Jazz had at point guard in 2015-16, Kennedy writes, "Hill has absolutely benefited from the change of scenery, playing some of the best basketball of his career while also emerging as one of Utah’s main leaders."

Kennedy followed that up by looking at Hill's fit with the team, his value on the floor and his role in the future. He then finished by saying, "Utah has been regarded as one of the most promising up-and-coming teams in the NBA for some time now, but the play of Hill coupled with the development of their young core could have them ready to make some serious noise in the Western Conference sooner than expected."
