Woman hit, killed by FrontRunner train in Provo

PROVO — A woman was hit and killed Monday morning by a FrontRunner train, police said.

The woman was walking in the intersection of 900 West and 600 South around 11 a.m. when she was hit, according to police. At the time she entered the intersection, the railroad crossing arms were down and all relevant equipment was working properly to warn of the approaching train, said Provo Police Lt. Brandon Post.

The lieutenant said it was not known Monday whether the woman intended to be hit by the train. She was walking north on 700 West when she was hit, he said. The woman died on impact.

The intersection was "a complicated scene," Post said, and investigators were still trying to identify the woman Monday evening. Her approximate age was not immediately known.

Traffic on 700 West was closed for much of Monday afternoon. The Utah Transit Authority set up a bus bridge between Provo and Orem.
