Morning links: BYU basketball projected to be a top 6 mid-major; Utah Jazz move up power rankings

David Gardner of Sports Illustrated took a look at the top six mid-major contenders this season in college basketball based on SI's College Basketball Projection System and the BYU Cougars made the list at No. 5.

Talking about the Cougars' new-look roster, Gardner writes, "Last season’s leading men, Kyle Collinsworth and Chase Fischer, are gone, but guard Nick Emery returns to build on a promising freshman season. The Cougars will also look for big production from newcomers like transfer Elijah Bryant (Elon) and TJ Haws."

The system also projected each player's stat line. It had Emery leading the way with 17.9 points a game. It had for other Cougars scoring in double-figures, including Eric Mika, Kyle Davis, Bryant and Haws.


Utah Jazz ranked 10th in NBA.com Power Rankings


The Utah Jazz moved up four spots to No. 10 in John Schuhmann's NBA.com Power rankings.

After talking about Gordon Hayward's production in his first game back, Schuhmann writes, "With their star healthy, the Jazz had the depth to take advantage of the Knicks' bench in the fourth quarter, as well as what could be a really dangerous closing lineup."

He continued, "George Hill, Rodney Hood, Hayward, Joe Johnson and Rudy Gobert outscored New York 26-12 in 10 minutes on Sunday."


BYU gymnastics owns the Mannequin Challenge


There have been some great displays presented since people started doing the Mannequin Challenge, but at least according to ESPN W's D'Arcy Maine, the BYU gymnastics team has done it the best.

She wrote, "Drop the mic, ladies. I really don't see how this can be topped."
