MIDVALE — A 10-year-old girl was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday following an auto-pedestrian crash.

The girl was hit by a westbound car at 400 W. Center just after 3:50 p.m., said Unified police detective Jared Richardson.

The girl was taken by ambulance to Intermountain Medical Center, then airlifted to Primary Children's Hospital in critical condition. Her impact with the car "damaged the windshield pretty good," according to the detective.

The girl was walking south on Center Street when she was hit, Richardson said. Police initially received "conflicting reports" as to whether she was in a crosswalk at the time of the collision, he said.

The girl was walking with a female cousin of about the same age at the time of the incident. That girl was not injured but was "pretty shaken up,” Richardson said.

Police are investigating whether the juvenile male driver was distracted, but they're confident he wasn't impaired, the detective said. He added that it wasn't clear whether the girl and her friend "bolted" into the road.
